Aptera
The monastery chapel

In the 19th century, the monks gave the archaeologist Robert Pashley (1805–1859) some coins found around the monastery, which made it possible to link the ruins to the ancient city of Aptera. They also mentioned the presence of mosaics at the site of this pretty chapel, which are thought to be evidence of an even older Christian basilica.
