Knossos
A fascinating site, despite everything

Are the frescoes original, or were they imagined by the British archaeologist Arthur Evans? It doesn’t matter. The site is fascinating, although the ever-present crowds can spoil your visit if you don’t make sure to arrive as soon as the gates open (8.00 am from May to October, 8.30 am from November to April). Please note: Knossos is only 6 km from the centre of Heraklion, but the journey takes quite a long time due to traffic jams.
