Kolymvári
Gonia Monastery (2)The monastery is situated near the seaside resort of Kolymvári, at the base of the Rodopou peninsula, between Kissamos (16 km away) and Chania (26 km away). Like many monasteries in Greece, it is fortified to protect itself from pirates and other raiders who once plagued the Aegean Sea, but beneath this forbidding exterior lies an oasis of tranquillity.
