Matala
The cave church

Tucked away at the end of a narrow alley, the tiny church of Panagia (Our Lady) may have been carved out of the rock during the Venetian period, or even built on the site of an ancient tomb. Rarely visited by tourists, it is a somewhat hidden spot, perfect for quiet reflection, in stark contrast to the exuberance of the rest of the village.
