Heraklion
Agios Titos Square

We are here in the heart of the city, in the square where Saint-Tite Cathedral stands, a place of worship with a turbulent history. Originally Byzantine, then Venetian, it was destroyed in the 15th century and rebuilt as a basilica, only to be destroyed and rebuilt once more before being converted into a mosque in the 17th century, and then destroyed by the earthquake of 1856... Rebuilt in its present form from 1869 onwards, it was not converted into an Orthodox cathedral until 1925.
