Chrysopigi, the chapel at the end of the world
If you want to feel like you're at the end of the world, take the only road to Folegandros, which runs the length of the island's ridge, and follow it all the way. Just under 8km from Chora, it ends at a small, unremarkable chapel, set in a magnificent landscape of rocky outcrops and sloping terraces, with breathtaking views of the sea and neighbouring islands. |
Chora and its Kastro, an invitation to stroll and enjoy the dolce vita
The largest square in Chora borders the Kastro, the medieval part of the village. In the centre of the square, a low wall demarcates an area where you will see several underground cisterns. Very common on Folegandros, these cisterns for collecting rainwater are a reminder that the island has no rivers or springs. Remember this before you book a hotel with a swimming pool! |
Karavostasis, port of Folegandros, 3km from the picturesque village of Chora
Karavostasis is not just a ferry port, it's also a small fishing port with small beaches. In summer, it is the departure point for tourist cruises to other beaches and around the island. There are, of course, accommodation facilities, restaurants, cafés and a small supermarket. |
