The Canton of Vaud is like a miniature Switzerland: gentle lakes, rolling hills of the Plateau, heights of the Jura, harshness of the Pre-Alps and the Alps, Rhone lowlands and five wine-growing areas are all found within its borders.
A large urban centre with Lausanne and its surroundings, small towns, charming villages, tiny hamlets... The world-famous Riviera, the terraced vineyards of Lavaux, the Vallée de Joux nestled in the Jura, the vineyards of La Côte and Chablais, the pre-Alpine valley of Pays-d'Enhaut... So many places to discover!
Not forgetting the largest alpine and sub-alpine lake in Central Europe, Lake Geneva, shared by Switzerland and France and known abroad as the "Lake of Geneva", crossed from east to west by the Rhone, which has descended from the Valais glaciers...
The Pays de Vaud is also home to many vineyards on very distinct terroirs which give the wines a great variety of characters.
The terraced vineyards of Lavaux, protected by UNESCO as a world heritage site, where the grapes benefit from the reflection of the sun on the lake, the vineyards of the Chablais which are like a foretaste of the Valais, the sun-drenched vineyards of La Côte...
But also, further north, there are lesser-known terroirs that produce excellent wines: Côtes de l'Orbe at the foot of the Jura, the slopes of Bonvillars on the shores of Lake Neuchâtel (where the only Champagne that does not have the right to bear its own name is produced), the slopes of Vully where Vaud and Fribourg share the same terroir...
